MS Foreign Languages
For each student, there is a custom screen called "MS Course Enrollment." The checkboxes need to be cleared and updated annually based on which languages, if any, the student is taking. This logic is used to render the online report cards properly.
This screenshot shows that the kid's data hasn't been updated yet -- he's in 8th grade but he's still down for 6th and 7th grade language courses. Those should be UNchecked, and only his 8th grade course(s) should be checked.
Since everyone's foreign language enrollment changes every year, the most efficient way to manage this is to CLEAR all the fields first:
1. Select all students. Go to Quick Export. Type these fieldnames:
student_number
MS_French6
MS_French7
MS_French8
MS_Latin6
MS_Latin7
MS_Latin8
MS_Spanish6
MS_Spanish7
MS_Spanish8
2. Open the resulting Students.export.text file in Excel and select all the cells to the right of student_number and underneath the 9 language headings, and clear data. Save. So now you have the student_number column with all the kids' numbers, and the 9 language column headings, but everything else is blank.
3. Back in PowerSchool, go to Special Functions -> Importing and Exporting -> Quick Import. Select Students table, and choose the file you just edited. Leave "Suggest Field Map" checked, and submit. The next screen should look like this:
Make sure to check the box to "exclude first row" (because it's the header row), and select the option below to "Update the student's record." Submit and wait a few seconds.
This clears the MS languages fields for each child.
Mass-checking the boxes for what they ARE taking:
Once all kids are enrolled in the proper foreign language course (if any), go to School -> Sections -> fren6 and click on the number under the "Enrollment" column.
Then click "Make Current Student Selection." Click "Student Field Value" and enter MS_French6 into the top box, and put the number "1" (no quotes) in the second box. Hit submit, confirm, then hit submit again.
This will have the effect of checking the French 6 box for all of those students.
Repeat for each foreign language section (9 total.)
