Serving Printers via Windows Server
Add new printer to the Windows print server and deploy to everyone via group policy.
1. Server Tools -> Print Management -> Print Servers -> CA-2016-SRV -> Printers
2. Right-click "add printer" and select "Add a TCP/IP or Web Services Printer by IP address or hostname" and for Type of Device choose "TCP/IP Device" and enter the printer's IP (it copies to the port name field automatically)
3. Name it something sane e.g. RoomAHP
4. If it defaults to generic driver, hunt for the right one; if it isn't listed, click Windows Update and wait a very long time and look for it again. If still no dice, cancel out, find the driver and install it or stick the PPD where you can find it then resume this process and click "Have disk" and navigate to the PPD.
5 Check the box to SHARE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Once it's added happily, right-click it and select "Deploy with Group Policy" -> click Browse -> go to "All" tab -> scroll and select "__Printers" (this is a GPO that Lucas had created but never populated) -> select the "per machine" option -> click "Add" -> Apply
7. If it doesn't appear for a user, run gpudate /force and/or reboot
The result of this in GP Editor is that the printers appear at Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Windows Settings -> Deployed Printers.
iPads and Airprint
The Mac Mini server that runs the inventory system and Munki is also a print server for iPads via Printopia. Reg key etc. can be found here.
The printers are loaded via Munki. So this should be a largely zero-touch thing when we add or update printers...the Mini will get the new printer from Munki and then auto-share it via Printopia. Mac and iOS client instructions are here.
Chromebooks
WOOHOO we went to Chrome native printing in September 2017. Thanks to Bjorn's post here: http://www.edlisten.com/2017/07/chromebook-printing-to-network-printers.html
