Chromebook Kiosk
This describes how to set up a Chromebook to automatically open up to a particular webpage without the need to log in. The Chromebook has to be enterprise-enrolled to the domain for this to work. So, as of this writing, that includes the 18 devices in the 5th grade cart, but NOT the library or loaner devices.
1. In the Google admin panel, go to Directory -> Organizational Units and create an OU called "Kiosks" under the main parent OU.
2. Find the Chromebook(s) you wish to use as kiosk devices and move them into the Kiosks OU.
3. Go to Devices -> Chrome Management -> Device Settings and select the Kiosks OU. Scroll down to the Kiosk Settings section and select "Allow Public Session Kiosk" and set "Auto-Launch Public Session" to "Yes" and set a sane number of seconds before delaying auto-login (e.g. 3). Click Save.
4. Just below the Allow Public Session Kiosk dropdown, click "Manage Public Session settings". Make sure the Kiosks OU is still selected. Enter a Session Display Name (what you want the temporary user to look like on the login screen.) Scroll down to the "Pages to Load on Startup" section and paste the URL to the page you want to display. Click Save.
For a YouTube video, you can change the URL format to include /tv# to put it into full-screen auto-play mode. E.g. if the regular URL is
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM-yGcpaY_4
then alter it to be
https://www.youtube.com/tv#/watch?v=UM-yGcpaY_4
5. Open the Chromebook and wait three seconds. It should automatically log in and open the browser to the URL you entered.
